SYNOPSIS
The Last Trip follows Molly Booms, a 39-year-old mother of two who has terminal breast cancer, as she undertakes a psilocybin journey to confront her fear of dying.
Psilocybin therapy — a guided journey in which a patient takes a macro dose of psychedelic mushrooms — has long been used to address depression and anxiety. More recently, in states where it’s legal (Oregon and Colorado) psilocybin has become more popular in end-of-life care, as research suggests that the experience of “ego death” often reported during the treatment can help people reckon with their own mortality by loosening the boundaries of the self.
The Last Trip captures Molly’s journey from early conversations with her facilitator to the psychedelic experience itself and the impact it has in the days and weeks that follow. As Molly’s perspective on life and death evolves in real time, audiences are left contemplating the role psychedelics could play in palliative care.

Jennie Butler, Director
Jennie Butler is a documentary filmmaker based in Los Angeles. She’s worked with companies like Radical Media, Topic Studios, Condé Nast, Amazon Studios, Hearst Television, and Discovery Channel. Her award-winning documentary short Georgie screened at festivals around the world, including DOC NYC, Rooftop Films, Palm Springs, Aspen Shortsfest, and was selected for Vimeo Staff Picks in 2025. Jennie was an Associate Producer on the feature documentary Tell Them You Love Me, which premiered at #1 on NETFLIX in 2024.
Andrew Hutcheson, Executive Producer
Andrew Hutcheson is an executive producer and founder of Voyager, where he produces both independent and commissioned films. Recent producing credits include “Shanti Rides Shotgun” (SXSW, Official Selection), “Through the Storm” (NFL Network; Big Sky Film Festival, Artistic Vision Award), “An Act of Service” (NYT Op-Docs; Aesthetica, Best Short Documentary), “The Diamond” (Camden Independent Film Festival, Staff Pick Award), “Somewhere With No Bridges” (First Run Features; Salem Film Festival, Audience Award), and “Shithouse” (IFC Films; SXSW, Grand Jury Winner). A graduate of Emerson College, Andrew now lives in Brooklyn, NY, with his wife, two cats, and entirely too many books.
Jody Fish, Producer
Jody Fish is an American-Swedish journalist-turned-producer with an emphasis on documentaries about extreme and taboo subjects. His producing career began with Swedish State Television’s documentary Ericsson and IS, which won a Swedish Emmy for Best Documentary. He then went on to line produce Hacking Hate, which won Best Documentary at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival, and he’s currently in production on multiple documentaries, including The Last Trip. Jody maintains a career in both Sweden and the US, and aims to develop sustainable cross-border co-productions that continue to change the world and move people.
